STEM SLEUTHS is a course that exposes students to the forensic science used tosolve a crime. Students will conduct experiments on fingerprinting, collecting shoe prints,chromatography, composite drawing, facial reconstruction, toxicology, and handwriting analysis.The class culminates in the forensic student team working together to solve a crime.

Babysitting 101 with Saint Catherine of Siena School
Saint Catherine of Siena School
Babysitting 101 is a class designed for students who are interested in babysitting. Students will have an introduction to basic care, safety, and first aid for infants and children. Students will also learn about the developmental stages of infants through school-age children and design activities to use with each age. Health, nutrition, and sleep for each developmental age will be taught. Students will have hands-on experience learning the Heimlich maneuver and how to use an EpiPen. Finally, students will design a babysitting advertisement for their business and receive a certificate of completion. The program can also be used to earn the Girl Scouts babysitting badge.

Students will explore the roles of an athletic trainer and orthopedic surgeon and learn how to diagnose and treat common sports injuries such as sprains, strains, and athlete’s foot. These future healthcare professionals will explore the famous Tommy John (arm & elbow) surgery and make models of a hand, joint, and tendon.

After “adopting” their own plush baby, students will role-play the key responsibilities of a pediatrician and learn how to perform a head-to-toe exam on a newborn. These future pediatricians will learn about diapering, diaper rash, bottling, burping, the infant Heimlich maneuver, childhood immunizations, and safe sleeping.

Students will role-play the key staff functions performed at a veterinary office and how to keep their “adopted” plush puppy healthy. These future veterinarians will explore digestion, the different parts of the canine eye, animal body language and how X-rays are used to diagnose and treat common illnesses.

Journey to become a marine biologist! This program offers a dynamic, hands-on introduction to marine biology. Participants will conduct ocean experiments, adopt a plush sea turtle, and partake in a collaborative rescue and release of a Leatherback sea turtle. Along their journey, they’ll uncover the mysteries of ocean layers, vertebrates vs. invertebrates, water pressure, and more! They’ll also explore marine mammals, ocean animal babies, and ocean predators. This engaging program culminates in their graduation as Little Marine Biologists, empowering them to protect our oceans!

Little Wilderness School brings medicine, science, and the importance of health to children in an entertaining, exciting, and fun way. Our program will teach children about some of the dangers in the wild and how to safely handle a medical situation. For example, students will learn about snake bites, hypothermia, how to tie a tourniquet, splint a broken leg, filter dirty water, 20 uses of a bandana, and how to treat bug bites. Our classes are led by a trained Little Medical School instructor. Each child receives a diploma, disposable lab coat, LMS bandana, thermal blanket and so much more.
